Mushrooms on the menu in Madisonville

Sauteed, steamed, fried or grilled, mushrooms are on the menu in Madisonville.

One of the most elegant features of the festival is the gala dinner.. This year’s menu features a medley of sauteed mushrooms with marbled rye bread, garlic and herbs in a four cheese custard as an appetizer – all paired with D’Vine Wine of Grapevine Chardonnay.Each barista is highly trained to use the specialty machines, often working four to six months before they are certified. On-site drinks are served in porcelain cups. The entree is a seared Texas 10-ounce New York strip steak with green peppercorn Cognac sauce, roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, herbed mushrooms and parmesan roasted tomatoes with a pairing of Perrine Winery Huguenot Tempranillo.

The gala dinner will begin with a Champagne reception at 6:30 p.m. across from Woodbine Hotel. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.The mushrooms you most commonly see in the supermarket are cultivated white button mushrooms.

Saturday’s events kick off bright and early at 7 a.m. with registration for the Shiitake 5K run at Lake Madison Park. Opening ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. in front of the Madison County Courthouse.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festival will be in full swing with arts and crafts booths featuring jewelry, pottery,He’s come up with an amazing organic cleaner but can’t get anyone interested in manufacturing it. furniture, seasonal art and more.

There will also be a photography contest, quilt show, a petting zoo, pony rides and musical entertainment by Devan Clute at 10:30 a.m., Ellie Roberts clog dancing at 11a.m., John Swat at noon, Mike Kelley at 1 p.m. and much more on the north side of the Madison County Courthouse.

Free mushroom fajitas sponsored by Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. will be given out at North Madison St.

The tastiest event for the masses will be the live cooking demonstrations and wine tastings going on until 8 p.m. or later across from Woodbine Hotel on N. Madison St. Tickets are $20 per person which includes a souvenir wine glass, program with recipes and festival T-shirt.

Chef Robert Bosley from Shrimpy’s Restaurant will host a cooking demonstration from noon to 12:45 p.m., Chef Susan Warmuth from the Woodbine Hotel will host a demo from 5 to 5:45 p.m. and other demonstrations run all day with chefs from The Lemon Wedge, Hudson’s on the Bend, The Calloway House and more.
